Lecture Performance by HAUPTAKTION

The essay-performance SITUATION WITH SPECTATORS negotiates the ethics of watching others and the desire to be watched. In between curtains and the documentation of extreme violence, this work gradually approaches the limits of what is tolerable: How political is the view of the person watching? Where is the threshold between testimony and voyeurism? What should be seen?

Which place could be better suited for this study than the theatre, a site whose very nature is to put things on display and whose only irreducible component is the role of the spectator.

Trigger-Warning: SITUATION WITH SPECTATORS explores the boundaries of spectatorship. Individual images and scenes contain potentially disturbing content.
